Sometimes voters can be split in trying to decide whether a particular role is leading or supporting. Sometimes that split can result in an actor not getting nominated at all. But sometimes it can mean a double nomination for the same role. It happened last year for Richard Gere. And this year, it happened again for Scarlett Johansson. Ironically, it also happened for Ellen Degeneres, and the two ended up tying for Best Supporting Actress.
