Jim Carrey's comedic roles have made him a box office star, but with the exception of The Majestic, it's his more serious roles that have given him the most critical acclaim. On message boards at film sites like the Internet Movie Database, fans of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind have denounced stodgy Oscar voters for snubbing his performance yet again, even though co-star Kate Winslet was nominated for Best Actress. But interestingly enough, while the film received eight Cosmo nominations, including performance nominations for both Winslet and Supporting Actress Kirsten Dunst, Carrey was passed over for a major acting nomination. He was, however, nominated for Best Male Villain for his performance in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, for which he also shares in the film's ensemble nomination.
