Ian Somerhalder, previously best known for acting in television's "Young Americans" and a small role in Life as a House, and for modeling in Abercrombie & Fitch catalogs, received his largest silver screen acting role to date as Paul Denton in Roger Avery's adaptation of The Rules of Attraction. The performance earned him a Cosmo nomination, one of only two nominations the film received. Since then, he has appeared in a few more films, mostly shorts, but most of his acting has been focused on television, including several guest appearances in "CSI" and "Law & Order," a 6-episode recurring role in "Smallville," and now a supporting role in the new hit "Lost."
