Elizabeth Taylor has spent
almost her entire life in the public eye, appearing in her first
film (There's One Born Every Minute) when she was 10, her
first smash hit (National Velvet) at the age of 12, and
earning her first of five Oscar nominations when she was 26. In
recent years, she has become even better known as a prodigious
fundraiser for AIDS-related charities and an unwavering champion
of the gay community.
At the Fifth Annual Awards, she received
her first Best Actress Hall of Fame nomination. She was again nominated in 2010
and was a sentimental favorite, having passed away during the voting season, but
was narrowly beaten by Glenn Close.
