Cosmique Movie Awards

Charles Busch

Birth: August 23, 1954 (New York, New York)

Selected Awards and Honors:

  • Special Jury Prize, Sundance Film Festival

Cosmo Awards:

  • Nominations: 1 individual
  • Wins: 0

Charles Busch's nomination in the Best Actress category at the fourth annual Cosmo Awards was highly controversial, given that the category has generally been reserved for the gender of the performer, not the character (the logic that was used when Linda Hunt won the Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance as a man in The Year of Living Dangerously.) And to our knowledge, Charles Busch is self-identified as a drag queen, not transgendered. Still, he has performed on screen in drag so many times - including Addams Family Values, Psycho Beach Party, and the television programs "Oz" and "One Life to Live" - that the Cosmique Movie Board of Governors allowed the voters' will to stand. Nevertheless, despite his unorthodox nomination, Charlize Theron took home the Best Actress Cosmo for Monster as she did at virtually every other major awards ceremony.
