When new-girl Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) enrolls in high school, she finds herself accepted by the popular, elitist girl clique...until she makes the mistake of falling for one of their ex-boyfriends.

At first glance, "Mean Girls" seems like it will be like almost every other teen-angst film on the market. But "Mean Girls" was adapted for the screen by "Saturday Night Live" alum Tina Fey, who brings it alive with a wickedly funny sense of humor. It's not as dark as the classic "Heathers," but it's closer to that film that the standard fare for this genre, and that sets it apart.

"Mean Girls" could find itself a surprise contender when Cosmo nominations come out, perhaps even garnering nominations in the heavily competitive Script and Comedy categories.

My Rating: 7
