When a U.S. president (Gene Hackman) retires to a small town in Maine and is persuaded to run for mayor, a local plumber (Ray Romano) decides to run against him to win back his girl (Maura Tierney).

"Welcome to Mooseport" is a perfectly fine comedy. Ray Romano demonstrates that his brand of comedy can stand up to the rigors of a feature-length film. Gene Hackman is brilliant, as always. And Maura Tierney - nominated for a Best Actress Cosmo two years ago for "Scotland, PA" - is always a delight, as is Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden.
But despite the pedigree of its performers, "Welcome to Mooseport," like last year's "Bruce Almighty," lacks the special oomph needed to stand out in a year that's always filled with clever comedies. It's perfectly amusing and perfectly satisfying...but also perfectly forgettable.
