Fifth Annual Cosmique Movie Awards
Eligible Films
The
following films enjoyed an original U.S. theatrical release in the 2004
calendar year, which allows them to be eligible to be considered for the
2004 Cosmique Movie Awards principle categories.
They are eligible to be considered in the Films Overall categories (like Best Film and Best Visual Effects), the Best Performance categories (from Best Actor to Best Cameo), and the appropriate Best by Genre categories. They are not eligible for Lifetime Achievement consideration, as a film cannot be inducted into the Hall of Fame in its first year of release.
This list was culled from a list of films reporting box office receipts, and was supplemented with additional data unearthed by the Academy's Board of Governors. Note, however, that it might not be considered to be an exhaustive list, as some smaller films may not report their box office data. If you believe a film meeting our eligibility requirements was omitted, please contact us and we will adjust the list on the official website if appropriate.
The criteria used to determine a film's eligibility is as follows:

If a film's first U.S. theatrical release was in 2004, it is generally considered eligible unless affected by another criteria below.

If a film was previously released in U.S. theaters and then was re-released for another run, it is generally not considered eligible, though it remains eligible for Lifetime Achievement consideration. Note one important exception, however: Donnie Darko was re-released in 2004 with a substantial director's cut that may have significantly affected many people's interpretations of the film. The Board of Directors has therefore decided to allow the director's cut to be considered as an independent 2004 film.

If a film was shown in a film festival in the San Francisco Bay Area, it may be considered as a 2004 film even if it did not enjoy an actual theatrical release. (If you believe such a film is omitted from our list, please contact us to petition a revision to the official list.)

If a film was only shown in film festivals outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, or had a limited release that did not include the Bay Area, it will be considered for the first year it was released on video or DVD. Please contact us if you are unsure what year a film is considered eligible.
