In this campy parody of 1940s "women's pictures," fading pop singer Angela Arden (Charles Busch) finds herself accused of plotting the murder of her husband (Philip Baker Hall) to be with her lover (Jason Priestley) while her daughter (Natasha Lyonne) plots her own revenge and her son (Stark Sands) deals with his own turmoil. When the Cosmo voters consistently nominate "The Women" for induction into the Hall of Fame, it perhaps shouldn't be so surprising that "Die, Mommie, Die!" was also popular. But Charles Busch's nomination into the Best Actress category is nevertheless controversial, since the category is intended to represent the performer and not the role, and Busch himself is not transgendered (to our knowledge). Still, enough Cosmo voters banded together to force the nomination, and the Board of Governors allowed it to stand. But will he be able to withstand Charlize Theron's monstrous performance to win the award? The trailer for the film is brilliant, matching the trailers for the era and genre of films it parodies, and so it's not surprising that it achieved its own nomination.
