The third and final installment of the "American Pie" series follows Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) as they plan for and embark on their wedding...hoping to keep Stifler and his antics from upstaging them.
Let's be honest. These kinds of films aren't exactly "high art." But they are what the Cosmos are all about - the films that draw us to the theater, and the films we enjoy once we get there. You can't judge this one based on the Oscar hopefuls, or even based on the sophisticated adult comedies. When you stack up the "American Pie" series against the "teen hijinks" genre, it holds its own and in fact raises the bar.
This last film in the series does just that, though it is slightly less engaging than its predecessors. Still, there have been many dreadful films that have tried in vain to capitalize on the success of this franchise. Overall, "American Wedding" isn't worth passing up one of the other great hits of the year like "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "Camp," but if you have time to spare, and you've seen those great ones, it's worth catching.
My grade: B -
